Amoxicillin Side Effects/reaction?

I don’t trust the medical profession! I have an infected toe that wouldn’t go away. I went to a walk in clinic and the doctor prescribed me amoxicllin. I have taken it many times as a child and a few times as an adult. I haven’t taken it in about 5 years as I now take zithromax usually. Since taking it I feel very weird and unwell. I feel warmer then usual, my face feels strange (like warm and almost numbish) my body is itchy (no rash that I can see) I feel stoned, I feel sick, I feel weird! Anyways, I have been trudging through for 4 days and I don’t know if I can keep taking it. I called the clinic where the doctor works to talk to the receptionist. I have NO ride to get to a doctors for the next 3 days. I tol dher thta and told her my sy,mptoms and the drug and asked if she could talk to the doctor. She said I would have to wait until I could get there on Mondya to talk to him. I said should I stop taking th emedication? She said oh, it’s not an allergic reaction, it is fine, is those symptoms in the side effects list that you were given? I said no. She said then it’s not from the drug, you are fine. So, I am asking you folks, are these normal side effects of amoxicillin? Help please :) Should I stop taking drug? If I stop taking it will my infected toe (not yet fully healed, plus I have a cold on top of it all that the amoxi ould also be helping to ward off bacteria) then get worse as docs say don’t stop taking antibiotics when on? Thanks!

I had a really bad reaction to amoxicillin (of course I am allergic to all ‘cillins) but it caused a really bad rash from head to toe. A lot of antibiotics cause dry mouth and “flush” feelings normally. I wouldn’t stop taking the antibiotics unless instructed to do so. Call the pharmacist and see what he/she says regarding your side-effects. They know best.

Why don’t you call a pharmacist instead? The receptionist is not a medical professional. The doctor is not an expert in medication, the pharmacist is.

    Side effects
Side effects are as those for other beta-lactam antibiotics. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, irritability, volatile mood swings, disorientation, aggressiveness and easy fatigue. Loose bowel movements (diarrhea) also may occur.
The onset of an allergic reaction to amoxicillin can be very sudden and intense - emergency medical attention must be sought as quickly as possible. The initial onset of such a reaction often starts with a change in mental state; skin rash with intense itching (often beginning in fingertips and around groin area and rapidly spreading) and sensations of fever, nausea and vomiting. Any other symptoms that seem even remotely suspicious must be taken very seriously.

Yes, indeed, I used to take it, and suddenly my leg get swollen, I could not walk, I thought I had developed arthritis. I went to the doctor (ER) and he he told me that you could be taken any medication and suddenly you could develop an allergy where the cell split in two and it’s very dangerous. He sent me for a blood test and recommended never take it and be sure I tell any doctor about been allergy to penicillin, amoxillin is almost the same as penicillin. He gave me a 60mg of prednison, oh boy I felt so good! The swollen went away and I’m feel fine. Is ironic that many doctors don’t pay attention to this thing. If you feel those symptom, stop taken. However, the doctor should had taken a blood test. I had to say that he was one of the best doctor I ever met.
    I hope you feel better.
    P. S. Next time insist in talking to the doctor, I’m a medical assistant and I can’t tell people on the phone or give any advise. You have to keep taken antibiotic, go back to the doctor and ask him to change your antibiotic.

I have taken Amoxicillin many times. It has never really given me any side effects. The only thing, is if it is a high milligram, try to take it with food so your stomach doesn’t get upset. I have taken it and I have had a cold at the same time, and it just helped everything. I personally think Amox is a great anti-biotic. It will help your toe, and any other infection or cold you have. Just as long as you take it all, and at the time you are supposed to take it.
